Geologists from the Universidad de Chile have discovered a new active volcano in Chilean Patagonia, which they baptised “Gran Mate.”

With a summit reaching a height 1,280 meters, this 5,000 year old volcano is snow-covered for ten months of the year and difficult to access.

Sentinel-1 and 2 can be used to identify and monitor volcanic activity in even the most isolated regions.
